Nothing against stop-motion Lego movies - but they seem to have taken over here. It would be nice to browse the Open Source films without the need to wade through "brickfilms" if one is not in the mood for a "brickfilm". I haven't counted, but it seems a frighteningly significant minority of the films in the Open Source archive feature Lego-compatible products.

This came up months ago. I don't know why it wasn't acted upon then, because that would've been the best time to address this issue. However, lucky for us, the second best time is now. I agree fervently and wholeheartedly - we need a brickfilm section!

Once again, it's not because I don't think highly of brickfilms that I advocate the creation of this section. It just seems that there's so much interest in them that they need to be recognized by being featured in another section.

And while we're on the subject, I seem to remember someone saying once that one of the criteria for submitting a film to the Internet Archive was that it be appropriate for inclusion in a library. That said, if your brickfilm is about as interesting as your aunt-in-law's home movies, don't submit it. When I browse the Open Source Movies, I desire to find art and information produced by people who feel strongly about their work and take the time to make it worthwhile. If your chef d'oeuvre involves Lego cars crashing into each other for 10 minutes, please spare us.

We have an unresolved technical issue with making a Brick Films collection, in that you can only upload into the Open-Source Movies collection if you're not an admin - you wouldn't be able to upload directly into Brick Films.

Having said that, I'm fed up enough with this not being resolved that I might go ahead and create the collection (with permission from some of the other Archive people), and people will still upload into Open-Source Movies, but I'll change them to Brick Films as I approve 'em.

I'll check about this.
